• For promoting Girl Child Education through Ilammottukkal Project at Tuticorin District

Thoothukudi, August 23: Sterlite Copper won the prestigious BT-CSR Excellence award 2017 for its CSR program “ILAMMOTTUKAL”for promotion of Girl Child Education, under the category of “PROMOTION OF EDUCATION”category, on 22nd of August 2017 in a colorful function at Hotel Lemeridan, New Delhi.

Mr.P.Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Copper received the Award from Mr. Indresh Kumar-Senior RSS functionary in presence of Mr. Snore Westguard, Executive Director of Humana people to people India, Mr. Suhail Ilyasi, Founder and Editor In-Chief, Bureaucracy Today and Mr. Khwaja Iftekhar Ahmed- Adviser, Bureaucracy Today. Senior Secretary-level bureaucrats, Bollywood dignitaries, MD/CMD and Chairmen of other leading Corporate Houses and Diplomats graced the occasion with their valuable presence.

Ilam Mottukal, the Education project is a flagship CSR initiative of Sterlite Copper aiming to improve enrolment and retention of girl children in formal school by ensuring quality education. It is also to ensure that every girl child is provided with quality school education in an enabling environment so that she can realize her fullest potential. The project is providing additional academic support through the establishment of 255 Academic Support Centres (ASCs) in 94 Government and Government aided schools. Currently 8008 girls are enrolled in 255 Academic Support Centers. These ASCs are providing 1.5 hours academic support in English, Tamil, Mathematics and EVS subjects along with theme based curriculum. The educational aids support is one of the essential components of the Ilam Mottukal Project. The educational kit with more than 10 materials are provided to all the enrolled girl children

More than 339 leading corporate houses participated in the award and Sterlite copper was selected in the 25 finalists. The awards were spread across 36 categories and the corporate firms were honoured for their initiatives in varied fields, including the Swachh Bharat, Skill India, Women Empowerment, Eradicating Poverty and Promotion of Girl Child Education. BT-CSR Excellence Awards 2017 event is to celebrate the extraordinary CSR activities undertaken by India Inc. which are transforming the lives of the weaker sections of society and making the country a better place to live in.
