Entrepreneurial Development Programme initiated for 600 women in Thoothukudi

  • Sterlite Copper organized Phase 2 of the Livelihood Awareness cum Training session on various development programs which include Mushroom Cultivation, Honey Be Cultivation, Tailoring, Sanitary Napkin Making, Organic Manure Production, Terrace Gardening etc.

Thoothukudi, July 07, 2019: Empowering women with knowledge, skills and self-confidence will help in making them socially and economically self-sustainable thereby adding value to the nation’s development process.

Under the CSR initiative – Sakhi – Women’s Development Resource Centre, Sterlite Copper organised a livelihood awareness cum training program on a diverse set of entrepreneurial avenues for more than 600 Self Help Group members ranging from 18 to 45 years in age from 20 core villages in and around Thoothukudi.

Subsequent to this successful awareness session, the organisation also distributed training completion certificates and kits which included materials for starting any development avenue, to more than 100 women who completed their training in Phase – I.

Awareness training program will be provided on areas like Mushroom Cultivation, Honey Bee Cultivation, Tailoring, Sanitary Napkin Making, Organic Manure Preparation, Terrace Gardening etc. from 2nd July 2019 till 4th July 2019, 10AM – 6:30 PM. Post the awareness session, real-time training will be provided to the participants in the following days.

The training sessions also deliver a holistic approach by touching on social development arenas like boosting one’s self confidence, retaining the right focus, setting an achievable goal etc. Sharing his thoughts on the project, Mr. Pankaj Kumar, CEO, Sterlite Copper, said “The phase 1 of the entrepreneurial development training was beneficial to more than 100 rural women hailing from Thoothukudi and we are glad to be providing them with a platform that will help them explore their areas of interest. With Phase 2 of this initiative, we hope to see much more women entrepreneurs rise and shine.”

Women from the villages of Therkku Veerapandiyapuram, Meelavaittan, Pandarampatti, Silverpuram, Sankaraperi, Kummara Reddyar Puram, Saminatham, Kayalurani, Nainarpuram, Vadakkusilukkan Patti, Velayuthapuram,  Sillanatham, Pudiyamputhur, Pudurpandiyarpuram Thalayaipuram, and Thoothukudi city are part of the various training activities.

Ms. Ponnuthai, a resident of Nainarpuram and one of the trainees of the sessions shared: “We are eagerly looking forward to taking part in the training program as it helps us to follow our dreams and passion. Also, it personally gives me an opportunity to be socially and economically self-reliant. I look forward to the sessions in the coming days”.
