Sterliet Copper celebrates VAN MAHOTSAV 2017.

Thoothukudi, 13 July 2017:Today, Sterlite Copper celebrated “Van Mahotsav” at its premises. Shri. Sundar Ramanathan, Joint Director, MoEF & CC, Chennai inaugurated the mass plantation drive along with Mr. P. Subbiah, AGM-Environment, Dr. R. Kailasam, Head-CSR, M Kumaravendhan, GM – Sustaining Projects and Mr. K. Kathiresan, Head- TPP. More than 100 employees from Sterlite Copper also took part in this event and planted 520 different species of saplings. While addressing the gathering Shri. Sundar Ramanathan emphasized on the importance of plantation drive and the objective of Govt. of India to protect the existing forest. He also mentioned about the importance to preserve the indigenous species of trees through this plantation drive and appreciated Sterlite Copper for organizing this event.

“Van Mahotsav” celebrated as Festival of Trees started in the year 1950 by Hon’ble Union minister for agriculture and food Shri. K. M. Munshi to create enthusiasm among masses for forest conservation and planting trees. This festival was later continued as a celebration in every year by different states under the aegis of MoEF and in partnership with other agencies like Forests Dept, NGOs etc. This year, MoEF & CC has initiated this mass plantation drive in Tuticorin with Sterlite Copper.
