Sterlite Copper bags 3 star appreciation award

Tuticorin: Sterlite Copper has bagged the ‘3 star appreciation award’ in the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) 2013 award ceremony held in Chennai recently. The award was presented to Sterlite Copper under large scale category.

Mr P Subbiah, Head – Environment and Mr.V.Jagadeesh, Engineer – Environment, Sterlite Copper received the award from Mr. Ramesh Kymal, Chairman Sustainability SubCommittee, CII-Southern Region & Mr.N.R.Krishnan, IAS (Retd), Former Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt of India.

The award was in recognition to the company’s demonstration of best practices and innovation in environment management system. The best practices followed like zero discharge using reverse osmosis & lowest water and energy consumption for the product output, flue gas desulphurization, raw material handling systems etc under environment and single point accountability, behaviour based safety and E-learning management systems under Safety were well appreciated by the CII.

EHS awards are presented annually by CII in order to sensitize the industries on adopting the best and innovative practices that enhance the sustainability of the organization. Out of 125 participants for the CII EHS award for the southern region, 114 were large scale industries. The award was conferred only after a rigorous field assessment process to understand the environment, health and safety management systems and unit’s best practices.
