16th January 2020, Thoothukudi: Sterlite Copper celebrated the week long Tamil harvest festival, Pongal with a traditional fervour across the district with people ushering in the auspicious Tamil month of ‘Thai’.

Sterlite Copper participated in the festivities by supporting and sponsoring gift and prize coupons for various games, activities and competitions held in 20 core villages of Thoothukudi.

The games and activities conducted for women, children and youth included Tug of War, Breaking the Pot, Musical Chair, Rangoli Competitions, Dance, Music etc.

The events were conducted amongst the villagers to rekindle the festive spirits of the communities.

The villages included Therku veera pandiyapuram, A.Kumareddiyarpuram, T.Kumaragiri, Pandarampatti, Therku sanakaraperi, Vadakku Sankaraperi, Meelavittan, Silverpuram, Madathur, Ayyanadaippu, Sorispuram, Vadakku Silukkanpatti, Therku silukkanpatti, Swaminatham, Nainarpuram, Sillanatham, Pudurpandiyapuram, Kailasapuram, Muthuswamy Puram, Rajavinkovil and Thoothukudi Town. More than 30,000 villagers took part in the festivities.

As part of Sterlite Copper’s ongoing community related activities aiming at positively impacting the lives of Thoothukudi’s people, multiple initiatives in the areas of Education, Health, Clean Drinking Water, Tree Plantation, Youth Skill Development and Women Empowerment are being carried out.
