Sterlite Copper honours 2000 women entrepreneurs.

  • Organises function honouring women leaders from Chennai and Thoothukudi
  • Sees participation by 2000 female entrepreneurs from Sakhi

Thoothukudi, March 8, 2018: Sterlite Copper celebrated Women’s Day 2018 by honouring women leaders and entrepreneurs, today at a function held at AVM Kamalavel Mahal, Thoothukudi. The event saw participation from more than 2000 women, comprising chiefly of Self Help Group (SHG) members from Sakhi, Sterlite Copper’s landmark woman empowerment project.

Smt. Shyamala Ramesh Babu, founder of Chisel and Evolve, Chennai graced the event as the Chief Guest. Smt P. Revathi, Project Director, Mahaliar Thittam, Govt. of Tamil Nadu was present as the Guest of Honour. Senior leaders from Sterlite Copper, including Smt. A.Sumathi, Assistant Vice President-Projects and Smt. Sonica Muraleedharan, General Manager-Human Resources were also present at the function.

Speaking about the relevance of this year’s theme Press for Progress, Capt. Sonica Muraleedharan. Head – Human Resources, Sterlite Copper, said, “Progress is a constant process that can only be achieved by perseverance. Through its comprehensive, womencentric CSR projects, Sterlite Copper addresses the needs of women in vital areas such as health, education and skill development. These projects ensure a strong foundation for women to persevere and bloom in spite all odds.”

Sterlite Copper has been actively promoting the cause of women empowerment and development through its internal and external initiatives. TUFemina, a forum exclusively for the company’s female employees, organises engagement events for its members throughout the year. In addition, Sterlite Copper’s CSR projects has had a positive impact on the lives of 2.8 lakhs people, a majority of whom are female beneficiaries of all ages.
