• Over 3500 school students participate in the district-level drawing competition

Thoothukudi, Jan 06 2018: Sterlite Copper, India’s premier copper producer, organised the sixth edition of ‘Colours’, an annual drawing competition for the students of Thoothukudi district. The event, held at the Vikasa School in Millerpuram, Thoothukudi saw active participation from more than 3500 school students from standards 1 to 10 . The event was inaugurated by Mr. Kamal Jain, Associate Vice President – Finance, and Capt. Sonica Muraleedharan, Head – HR, Sterlite Copper.

By organising and encouraging participation in Colours, Sterlite Copper seeks to provide a platform for the students to bring out their creative abilities and encourage them to develop their innate talent. Now an annual fixture of Thoothukudi’s scholastic calendar, the mega event also promotes artistic talent, and provides an environment of friendly competition and expression.

The competition was spread across 4 categories, based on the following themes: Agriculture, Road Safety, Our City Thoothukudi and Jallikattu.

The first category included students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd standards and the theme given to them was ‘Agriculture’. In second category included students from 4th and 5th standards, and the theme given to them was ‘Road Safety’. The winners were awarded with medals and cash prizes across different categories. The top three winners in the 1st category received Rs. 4000, Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000, the winners in the 2nd category received Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000, respectively.

The third category included students from 6th, 7th and 8th standard and the theme given to them was ‘Our City Thoothukudi’. In fourth category, the students included from 9th, 10th and 11th standard and the theme given to them was ‘Jallikattu’. The winners in the 3rd category received Rs 6000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000, while the winners in the 4th category received Rs 8000, Rs 6000 and Rs 4000 respectively. In addition, 10 consolation prizes worth Rs 500 each were given to the students under each category.

Sharing his pleasure at the success of the event, Chief Guest Shri. P. Mahendran appreciated Sterlite Copper for its efforts in executing various community welfare activities in Thoothukudi. Addressing the gathering, P. Mahendran lauded the students, saying that while winning prizes and trophies is an achievement, what really mattered was that the students had the courage to participate and express themselves creatively. Shri. Anshu Goel presided over the program and listed out various initiatives taken by Sterlite Copper in facilitating overall social and livelihood development of Thoothukudi particularly promotion of sports and education.
